Collecting: LGBT+ History of Wakefield

Wakefield Pride and Wakefield Museums and Castles Collections are looking for artefacts and donations to highlight LGBT+ History in the Wakefield district to help fill gaps within the current collection.

How to get Involved?

We are encouraging the donation of stories, photographs, objects, audio, film, blogs with strong links related to the LGBT+ community in Wakefield to help develop an up to date Archive and Museum Collection.

This collection will be available for research, learning programmes to potential future Museum events/exhibitions and institutional loans.

In addition to the collection and archive we would also like to create future LGBT+ handling boxes that can be used in learning handling sessions at the Museum and loaned to schools.

We are therefore asking people with a link to Wakefield and it's LGBT+ community to add to this growing archive by sending in either:

Digital donations (written accounts, photos, videos, etc)

Physical donations or loans (objects, posters, belongings, etc)
Please be aware not all physical donations can be accepted and we’re not able to accept items on loan unless they are for a specific display or exhibition.

Unless objects and their associated stories are preserved for future generations, places like Wakefield will be unable to tell the full history of the LGBT+ community in the district.
